Federal Association for By-products as Animal Feed

The Federal Association for By-products as Animal Feed (BFaN) represents the interests of member companies who manufacture straight and compound feeds from food industry by-products. The by-products come from the production of bread and bakery products, chocolate, snacks, processed foods and powdered milk products.

Our member companies collect, transport and recycle failed batches, returns, damaged goods or production residues with or without packaging. It follows that flexibility, speed and sophisticated logistics are essential service characteristics displayed by the association's members. On this basis, our members guarantee consistent quality as regards the production of high-quality straight and compound feeds for animal nutrition.

Processing former foodstuffs into feed is the most productive form of recycling, both in economic and ecological terms, and is also stipulated by the German Closed Substance Cycle Waste Management Act and the European Union’s Framework Directive on Waste (2008/98/EC).
